Ashley Clelford
PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPIST (BACP)
About Me
I am a trainee psychodynamic counsellor working with adults. I believe that meaningful change begins when we feel truly understood and accepted. My aim is to offer a unique relationship in which you can develop greater autonomy, resilience, and self-compassion.
Stepping into counselling can feel daunting, I hope to make this more comfortable with my provision of a confidential, collaborative, and empathetic space, enabling you to feel heard. I offer an open, engaged, and non-judgmental approach to build a trusting relationship where you can safely explore your thoughts and feelings.
I am a volunteer with the PANDAS Foundation, supporting people experiencing perinatal mental illness. Through the PANDAS national helpline and 1-1 peer support service, I have worked with individuals navigating complex challenges including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, OCD, birth trauma, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
My Therapy Practice
I work within the psychodynamic model. This means that alongside your current life challenges, we may explore how your inner world, past experiences, and early relationships shape how you feel and behave today. Together, we can gain deeper insight into how you relate to yourself and others, empowering you to break free from patterns that no longer serve you.
Our sessions will focus on you and what you are experiencing. My role is not to give advice or tell you what to do, but to accompany you in your exploration. Working at your pace, I will encourage you to talk openly about whatever comes to mind without filtering your thoughts and feelings, offering you a safe space to process them.
Professional Background
Before training as a counsellor, I spent many years working in the legal sector. This high-stakes environment honed my ability to remain calm, grounded, and resilient when managing challenging or distressing situations. During my time in the legal profession, I worked with people from diverse backgrounds in a variety of circumstances which deepened my commitment to understanding people’s unique perspectives and the challenges they face.
As a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), my practice is strictly guided by their Ethical Framework, which ensures that your safety and wellbeing are always at the heart of our work.
